Status Quo is no more?

05/09/2009 at 5:45 am (General, Real Madrid)

Should it be? It depends. Everybody have their own opinion. So do I. The Best Club of the Century award given by FIFA in recognition of the number of prestigious trophies won by a team in a single century. Real Madrid is the first to be awarded in 2002 if I’m not mistaken due to laziness to check stats. What’s wrong anyway with status quo? Well, I could just say it is not relevant anymore in the era of so-called ‘modern football’. Why? Simply say, due to result-oriented. Most of the clubs nowadays have been focusing on how to win rather than playing the game. Should we care? Yes. Borrowed from Didier Drogba’s word – DISGRACE! Okay back to main topic. Surely this is about Madrid and not Chelsea or Barcelona. Madrid has been carried the status which themselves-picked for many years. I could say from the moment of 5 consecutive European Cups gold medal. The status or stature of the clubs looked like have been automatically set after those unbelievable victory. From that moment, they are the best of the best. Every season we are expecting Madrid should reach at least final stage in the most prestigious clubs’ tournament ever organized (UEFA Champions League). Judging after their very last silverware at Europe in 2001, Madrid really never gets back to their business. This season again we saw for 5th consecutive seasons Madrid failed to clear from Round of 16. This is not good for a club with that stature. Madridistas are demanding European success more than anything they care. So, will it be relevant again with this status quo? Win with pride or win without dignity? What these ‘pride’ things have to do with status quo? My opinion says, since you are the best act like the best in the very best way. It doesn’t matter if they are not able to win the Cup as long as they uphold their traditional football. Well for people that might not know the historical side of Madrid let me tell you a little bit. Madrid is famous with their attractive attacking football and aesthetic play. But, there is no more at Madrid. We are in the doom era. Madrid is losing both. They don’t win and don’t play their game. Madrid is no more 1st seed clubs for next season UCL main draw. That’s clearly told that Madrid is no more European powerhouse. UEFA calculate it based on their performance in European outings plus National League co-efficient. Madrid did win back-to-back league title in 2007 & 2008. But they are not really won it. This season the outcome for ‘not really won it’ has been shown. Barca was absolutely in another standard. 2-6 humiliating home defeat to Barca is really painful. Again, I ask is Madrid still carrying the best club title? Well I really wanted to say that Barca is having their best ever spells in their history. Look at their game; it was real class of football and very classic one. Plus, they are on the road for treble. While the result-oriented Madrid, is already over. So now we come to the conclusion and the final answer. Yes Madrid stills the BEST unless there are teams that outnumbered Madrid’s accolades. While Madrid is losing the result and game for many ‘unacceptable’ seasons, so my words are Madrid is losing the status. Therefore, act best in the second-best condition; hence you will be the greatest. The final answer is YES but NO. Confused isn’t it? That’s the bitterest pill to swallow.
